What is creativity?

Creativity is not just the ability to think in a different way. Creativity is the ability to think and apply your thoughts in a way that is not limited by conventional frameworks.

How can creativity be taught?

Creativity can be developed and encouraged to grow but it is not something to be specifically taught. It isn't a technique or fact we can teach children through repetition. How can you teach kids to think outside of what they are taught.? Better yet how can we in a classroom setting where there are grades and lessons put a value on one students creativity over another? I believe all that we can do is encourage students to express there own ideas by setting up a learning environment where they don't have to fear grades or judgements that can stifle creativity. The classroom is rarely fitting for this goal.

Why creativity NOW?  Why do you think creativity is especially important now?

Creativity will always be important. I do not think it is more important today then it has been in the past. I do think that we need to put a particular emphasis on creativity being a tool to be developed through art and applied in the everyday life. Not everyone is meant to be an artist but everyone can use a creative mind.

How can technology (digital media) be used to implement creativity in learning through the visual art?

Technology is a TOOL, an option. If we view it that way our students will do the same. By making sure recent technologies are available for use we can give students the option for more ways to express their ideas. With more options comes more thoughts into what would work best for what I am doing and from more thought comes creativity.
